Research at MultiMedica: Pioneering Neuromodulation in Metabolic Diseases

The research group led by Professor Livio Luzi has been among the first in the world to demonstrate the efficacy and safety of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) in the treatment of obesity.

Studies conducted at IRCCS MultiMedica have shown that this non-invasive technique can promote significant weight loss while positively influencing the brain mechanisms involved in hedonic hunger and decision-making related to eating behaviour.

These findings have led to the development of an innovative method and the filing of a patent, now owned by MultiMedica, opening new opportunities for technology transfer and the clinical application of neuromodulation in metabolic diseases.
